Dropping the Catnap: Merge 6 Baby Sleep Schedule (Weeks 28-40)

A frame of reference for your 7-10 month old's sleeping habits

Once Baby hits the seven month mark, parents may begin wondering whether or not dropping the catnap is a good idea. Remember, Baby's sleep schedule is something that is always evolving based on your baby, your family and your routine, so this transition will happen differently for everyone.

Sometime within the weeks listed, most Babywise babies drop their catnap, reducing the five feed-wake-sleep cycles to four, requiring more daytime adjustments. The four feed-wake-sleep cycles include breakfast, lunch, dinner and a liquid feeding at bedtime.

Again, please take note of the large span of weeks separating Merges Five and Six. We could compare two babies similar in age who may make this merge two months apart from each other. But when you respond each child's individual sleep needs, you'll find each falls within the “normal” range for dropping their catnaps.
