How to Get Things Done at Home with Baby in Tow

It's possible to be productive and organized, even with a baby!

You have a new baby and are thinking you will never get time to check off your never-ending to-do list, let alone any time for yourself right? Don’t worry it is possible!

How to Get Things Done at Home with a Baby

By implementing the Babywise schedule into your baby's life, it will help you regain your time. Structure, routine, and predictability are important not only for a mom but a baby too. Here are some tips on how to get your to-do list done.

1. Use the Babywise Schedule

It’s important to get your baby on a schedule, so you know what to expect in a day. If you do not use a schedule for your baby, then your daily routine will never be the same.

Lack of routine causes unnecessary stress for yourself, as well for the baby, which in turn makes them fussy. Implement the Babywise schedules, eating every 2.5-3 hours, sleep-eat-awake. This will dramatically improve your day.

2. Make a List

Now that you know what to expect from your little one's day, you can think about what you need and want to do in your day. A helpful thing to do is write down everything so you can check it off as you go.

Keep in mind you are now taking care of another human so you won’t do as much as you did before he/she was born. Schedule extra time in the day for any hiccups that may occur, and do not write down items that are not completely necessary so not to overwhelm yourself.

3. Utilize Nap Time

There are only a few chances in the day where your baby will be safely napping in their crib – use this time wisely. Nap time is the perfect opportunity for you to take that shower you’ve been needing, do a quick clean, play with other children, or whatever you may like.

This is the time to get the things done where you need no distractions from your baby, but of course, this time can be used to relax and take a breather as well (you deserve it!).

4. Work During Self Play

Babies love playing and interacting with mom and dad but don’t forget it is important they learn how to play on their own too.

Place baby on a blanket in a safe spot, where you can still see them. Let them play on their own and discover the world, as well as learning they do not always need you for fun. This is a good way to continue working away on that list of yours.

5. Rise and Shine First

The bonus of knowing your baby's regular schedule is you can plan your day more easily. If your baby always gets up at 7 to start their day and eat, perhaps you should consider walking earlier.

The benefit of getting up before your baby is having some quiet time to yourself, work out, get ready for the day, whatever you decide. Those morning hours can be some of the most productive time of the day. Are you a night owl? Switch this around and stay up later than your baby instead.
